the monumental lime tree (1848) represents a significant part of Orino’s cultural heritage, not only for its economic, social and aesthetic value, but also for its importance from a landscape and environmental point of view.
the Church of San Lorenzo, dating back to 1330 AD, constitutes the architectural and unique value of the churchyard, which is so special that it also serves as the entrance to the small cemetery next to the church.
the project, through a new belvedere, reconnects the churchyard of San Lorenzo, the monumental lime tree and the entrance to the cemetery. it is a minimal intervention that tends to work by subtraction, freeing up space to give greater visibility to the protagonists, the monumental lime tree and the church.
a belvedere, a panoramic viewpoint where the gaze wanders towards Lake Maggiore and beyond, but also a place to rest, meditate under the lime tree and meet in front of the churchyard.
